Happy Thanksgiving! From the Children’s Disaster Services California Camp Fire Team.
The CDS team in Chico, CA, has been working in the Disaster Resource Center (DRC) since it opened last Friday. The team, which has included four child life specialists so far, has been very busy with close to 50 kids each day. FEMA and the Red Cross have provided a very large play space for CDS in the heart of the DRC and have continually bent over backwards to make sure the team has what they need to care for the kids.
Even though today is Thanksgiving, the DRC was open normal hours 9am-7pm so the play space was also open. The team celebrated Thanksgiving with the kids and families.
The team enjoyed an impromptu child-lead Thanksgiving meal out of play dough.
