Child Life Disaster Relief (CLDR) is in partnership with Children’s Disaster Services (CDS) for national and local deployments. CDS offered their first volunteer training in 1980 and they have been training volunteers to work with children in the immediate aftermath of disasters ever since. CLDR has the privilege of joining their mission to continue to meet the needs of children and families post-disaster. CDS offers two types of training workshops – a standard CDS training and a child life specific training.

Child life specialists are encouraged to attend either the standard CDS training or the child life specific training for CDS certification eligibility; only one training is required.

Child life students are encouraged to attend the standard CDS training.
